Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka
Tucked away amidst the lofty peaks with the Western Ghats, the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is actually a well-known Project Tiger reserve. The wildlife sanctuary is referred to as so right after the Bhadra River which meanders via the lush forests. The region was declared the Jagara Valley Recreation Reserve in 1951 with the Authorities of Mysore. In 1974, soon after a census of the animal species inside the adjoining areas, the sanctuary was reconstituted as the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary.The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary boasts of the substantial tiger population and as such the sanctuary was declared the 25th Venture Tiger reserve of India in 1998. Bhadra is popularly identified as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary, after the village on its fringes.
