Famous Islands in Andaman Nicobar


A group of 572 islands, the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands lie floating in the Indian Ocean. These islands are comprised of two distinct groups of islands - the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands. The Indian union territory of Andaman Nicobar islands are spread over a expansive area of around 6,496 sq km (= 2,508 miles). Human population can be found only on 38 islands of this group. Most of this human population is distributed on the islands of Andaman Islands. A 10 degree channel, which measures 150 km in width, divides the two groups of the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands.

Humans inhabit 26 islands of the Andaman and 22 islands of the Nicobar. The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands has Port Blair as its capital, which is also the gateway to these islands. The populations on these islands follow different faiths including Hinduism (majority), Islam, Christianity and Sikhism. Foreign travellers will require an entry permit, known as RAP, to access the islands of Andaman and Niocbar.
